ABOUT 9 COMMONS

9 COMMONS is a fashion startup established in 2025 dedicated exclusively to women’s sports. Through its collections, the brand brings together sport, culture, and storytelling while committing 9% of net annual proceeds to expanding access to play for the next generation of athletes.

Maria McClay, Founder + CEO

Former 400m hurdler, nicknamed Crash. Sports have always meant something special to her…as a fan, as an athlete, as the mom of a teenage girl who plays basketball. At her core, Maria is a fashion lover who thrives on uncovering what’s next and creating teams to bring the vision to life– from overseeing 9 countries at Gucci, to building Google’s fashion team and leading AI sustainability efforts, to advising next-gen luxury brands. A health-related wake up call clarified where she wanted to spend her time: helping raise the visibility of women’s sports teams through the lens of fashion. And she’s all-in. Maria believes in the beauty of possibility—and that business can do well while doing good.

Kat Hoelck, Chief Creative Officer

Kat grew up in a house where everyone put on jerseys to yell at the TV every Sunday night. The least athletic member of an otherwise sporty family, her two left feet didn’t stop her from spending her formative years in organized sports, where she built resilience, drive, and fortitude. Her professional career includes in-house design roles at A|X and J.Crew, providing a range of creative services to brands such as Dolce & Gabbana and Versace, and developing Parsons’ Executive Education series in collaboration with companies like Calvin Klein. She serves as fashion faculty at her alma mater, Parsons School of Design, where she integrates sustainability literacy with aesthetic expertise to help advance more thoughtful systems and products.
